100 Word Summary/Reflection of Esther’s Post


Adjectives to describe Esther that come to mind after reading her post include passionate, romantic, spiritual, religious, and driven. In her personal statement, she describes Ireland as a place of eternal longing with mystic qualities and great beauty. She selected her photograph of an old church partly because of the aforementioned qualities but also because of its religious implications. It is clear through her writing that Esther herself believes deeply in the power and importance of beauty, which she believes is derived and created through God. Often Esther uses exclamation points, and you can feel her excitement shining through the computer screen. She also seems a very thoughtful person, as is evident through her deep analysis and reflection of a highly romantic poem by the modern poet Medh McGuckian, as well as through her consideration for political and gender issues affecting the Irish culture (which she admires greatly). Clearly beaming through all of this is her passion for Irish music, which she uses as a metaphor for life. Esther is also an accomplished Irish Step-Dancer, which we had the privilege of witnessing in class last Thursday.
